‘I’m pissed off’.
That is what Rory McIlroy said after missing the cut at the Honda Classic. The world number one carded a four-over 74 at the Florida tournament and that added up to a seven over total and an early exit from his first PGA event of the year.
McIlroy struggled in the difficult conditions, his round was twice interrupted by poor weather conditions as he finished with five bogeys and just one birdie.
‘I don’t like missing cuts. You want to be playing on the weekend and I’m not there,’ McIlroy said.
“I guess after coming off a three‑week break, and then felt a little ‑‑ just a little, I wouldn’t say rusty, but just not quite on top of my game [Thursday],” McIlroy added. “Then [Thursday], I mean, I felt like I was trying to get something going and couldn’t. Coming off three weeks off and playing in conditions like these, it sort of shows you where your game’s at.”
This weekend is the first time McIlroy has missed the cut since last summer’s Irish Open.
Dubliner Padraig Harrington is currently tied with Ian Poulter on four-under, in fourth place and four shots behind leader Brendan Steele.
