Of all the fantastic tributes that have flooded in these recent months, this is one of our favourites.
On Sunday, hundreds of GAA players, and enthusiasts, marked the 100th anniversary of Ireland’s 1916 Easter Rising on Maroubra Beach, Sydney.
Rosie McGarvey contacted us, via our Facebook page, to share these wonderful images of ex-pats, and lovers of all things Irish, paying their respects at the weekend. Rosie told us:
“At the Annual Cormac McAnallen’s GAC Sydney Beach Football Tournament, we as a club with the extended GAA community in Sydney Australia, Marked the 100th Anniversary of The 1916 Easter Rising and Ireland’s Freedom.
“Along with the many Gaels of New South Wales GAA we joined together and marked the occasion with a word formation of ‘1916, 2016 Eire’.”
Tremendous stuff.
Thanks to Rosie McGarvey for sending this our way. If you have any pieces of content you’d like to share with us, hit us up onFacebook or Twitter or send us an email at editorial@SportsJOE.ie.
