Mayo GAA fans were hit with more great news yesterday, when AFL side St Kilda confirmed that their Irish stars would be allowed compete in their respective club championships in Ireland.
Alongside Mayo's All-Ireland winning hero, Kobe McDonald, of Crossmolina Deel Rovers, they have Meath and Duleek Bellewstown man Eamonn Armstrong, and Cork's Liam O'Connell, who is Ballincollig.
Explaining their decision, St Kilda's general manager of football Lenny Hayes said: "As a club, it's really important that we support our players in their lives outside of being professional AFL footballers.
"We understand how much home means to each of these boys, and we didn't want to stand in the way of this opportunity to represent the communities and clubs they come from.
"The opportunity to play should only benefit their aerobic conditioning, and we look forward to welcoming them back in November for the first day of pre-season."
After a starring turn up on stage with the Saw Doctors at Electric Picnic last weekend, alongside the rest of the Mayo squad, we can expect McDonald to play a part in Crossmolina's Mayo SHC clash with Mayo Gaels, on Sunday, September 6.
The three St Kilda men are expected back with their Aussie team in November, ahead of pre-season.
