They did it for Shane.

Fermanagh’s hurlers captured silverware at Croke Park, this afternoon, and dedicated their triumph to a teammate who tragically died in April.

Earlier this year well-known and loved county hurler Shane Mulholland was killed in a motoring accident. His teammates paid two touching tributes before and during the match.

They wore specially designed jerseys with ’25’ of them, in remembrance of their dear, departed colleague. They also continued the practice, first seen before their semi-final win, of leaving a space in the team line-up for Mulholland.

As for the game itself, Sligo raced into an 0-7 to 0-2 lead in the first half before a bevvy of Fermanagh goals, including two from Declan McGarry, swung the tie.

Fermanagh were 3-8 to 0-12 up, early in the second half, when their midfielder John Duffy was sent off.

The Lakelands County held on, however, and saw out the final to win their first Lory Meagher Cup with a scoreline of 3-16 to 1-17.
