All Blacks coach gives classy reaction to Sean O’Brien’s sensational try

It was a sensational score

Patrick McCarry

It all started deep in the Lions twenty-two and ended off with Sean O’Brien getting the job done.

The British & Irish Lions were beaten 30-15 by New Zealand at Eden Park but hope lived oh so brightly for 20 minutes after O’Brien finished off one of the tries of the year.

Anthony Watson found fullback Liam Williams beside him and the Welshman went on the tear before finding Elliot Daly and Jonathan Davies in support. The Kiwis had scrambled well all night but O’Brien was on hand to make sure the chance would not slip away.

Following the game, New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen could not get over how good a try O’Brien and the Lions had scored. He told Sky Sports:

“The Lions plated really, really well and the first try they scored will go down in the annals of Test history as one of the best tries ever scored.”

Preach, Steve. Preach!

As for the tiny matter of the game itself, Hansen believes the All Blacks won the battle of the front five and ‘looked after the ball’ fractionally better than the Lions.

They all decamp to Wellington now ahead of the Second Test and, for the Lions midweekers, a Tuesday game against the hard-running Hurricanes.
