Outspoken as always.

He was speaking yesterday on the Indo Sports podcast, and had some fascinating comments on his time playing for his country under manager Martin O'Neill and assistant Roy Keane.

The 37-year-old touched on the end of their tenure, which featured a 5-1 World Cup play-off loss to Denmark and then a a 4-1 Nations League loss to Wales.

Although McClean was injured for the latter, he witnessed, and was taken aback by, Keane's rant after the game, and explained that the younger generation would not be able to handle Keane's ways.

He said: “And then after that as well, a lot of good fellas, good players moved on.

"A new crop of younger players were starting to come in, so between them trying to find their feet and Roy’s ‘tell it how it is’ approach, with the new generation now, that doesn’t work anymore with people. Everyone’s very easily offended now."

However, McClean was full of praise for Keane and wished that he had taken more from his time with him.
