Chairman of the British Racing Drivers’ Club Derek Warwick has branded McLaren’s delay in deciding the future of Jenson Button “disgusting.”
In an interview with BBC Radio 5 live, Warwick said: “They’ve got a young driver they’ve invested heavily in with Kevin Magnussen. He’s obviously someone for the future so I think it’s a difficult situation for them.
“But in terms of Silverstone and British Racing Drivers’ Club, our fingers are crossed for Jenson because he brings a lot of people to the British Grand Prix and that’s important for us.”
A board meeting at McLaren took place last night but still, no decision has been made on Button and when asked to comment on the delay, a team spokesman said: “The team declines to add further details and that “no driver selection announcements until next week at the earliest”.
Button was quoted yesterday as saying: ” I just want to get it done. I want to hear the decision – as we all do – so we can all move on in whatever direction.”
Telegraph F1 correspondent Daniel Johnson also had his say on the matter, writing this morning: “Putting a world champion through the mill, one who has been such a team player at McLaren and who commands huge respect, is bordering on a disgrace.”
