‘The most beautiful thing in life is when you have the right partner by your side’
Formula One legend and the brother of Michael Schumacher, Ralf has come out as gay.
Schumacher revealed the news in an emotional statement on social media in which he posted a photo of himself alongside his partner, arm-in-arm looking out to the sea.
It said: “The most beautiful thing in life is when you have the right partner by your side with whom you can share everything.”
His post was met with plenty of positive reaction online, including German actress Carmen Geiss who shared her message of support for Schumacher and his partner, Etienne.
She said: “I LOVE YOU BOTH SO MUCH. You have the best partner, Etienne, you can imagine. After two years you can finally show your love to the world. I have known Ralf for more than 25 years and he has always been a great joy to me.
“Always liberal, a good-hearted person who I can call day and night and above all has always been honest with me in his position.I am happy that I got to be a part of this love and even more happy for the two who searched and found each other, because I also love Etienne deeply.”
The 49-year-old was previously married to former wife Cora for 14 years before filing for divorce back in 2015.
They have one son together, David, a race car driver.
Schumacher enjoyed successful F1 career
Although he was often known as the younger brother of seven-time F1 champion Michael, Ralf still enjoyed a successful career in the sport himself.
Driving for the likes of Williams and Toyota Racing, the German recorded six wins and 27 podium finishes.
