We don’t expect to see too many of these clips emerging.
It’s tremendously rare for footage to come out of a fighter in training camp due to the obvious fact that an opponent can gain an advantage by seeing what is being drilled most often.
That’s why it came as such a surprise when footage of a light sparring session involving Jose Aldo, who is preparing for a title defence at UFC 189, made it online in the last 24 hours.
And if Aldo’s performance in the video is anything to go by, he plans on testing the wrestling abilities of Conor McGregor that have been so frequently questioned by critics of the Irishman.
Aldo (25-1) can be seen throwing some basic combinations before taking the back of his training partner and dragging the session to the ground where the featherweight champion proceeds to work for a choke before the camera stops rolling.
McGregor’s flashy striking combined with the fact that both of the Dubliner’s losses have come by way of submission would suggest that a grappling-heavy gameplan would not be the worst strategy for the Brazilian.
