Edgar clears out another contender to Featherweight title
Cub Swanson may have fancied himself as a challenger to the best in the division but tonight’s performance means that Conor McGregor is still very much a live title contender.
Edgar had Swanson on the mat at the start of the second round and it was pretty much the story of the rest of the fight as the man who came in with six straight UFC wins struggled to land any meaningful blows to Edgar.
His fifth round rear naked choke finish was just four seconds from the end but in truth it was over well before then.
It all means that if the ‘Notorious’ can get the better of Denis Siver then there is the possibility of a title shot at Aldo in 2015.
That’s a lot of ifs but at least one more hopeful has been kicked to the kerb this morning.
