No-No-Notorious!

It’s emerged this evening that Ireland’s favourite son, Conor McGregor, will be rewarded with a shot at Jose Aldo’s featherweight strap if “The Notorious” gets past Dennis Siver.

McGregor (16-2) meets Siver (22-9-1NC) at UFC Fight Night 59 on January 18 and while it had been suggested that the Irish 145lber could seal a title shot with a victory, doubts still remained with Frankie Edgar’s also name circling the contention picture.

But all uncertainty was eliminated tonight when UFC president Dana White informed the media that McGregor would, in fact, get the title shot.

“This fight in Boston, if he wins this fight he’s going to fight for the title,” White said.

The whereabouts of the potential title fight between Aldo (25-1) and McGregor, who is 4-0 in his two years with the promotion, has also been in question with the UFC allegedly in talks to have “The Notorious” fight at Croke Park in May but White could not confirm the rumours.

“You know that place is a 90,000-seat arena,” he said.

White was also quick to remind us all that McGregor’s upcoming bout against Siver is no walkover.

“Everybody just assumes (McGregor) is going to walk through Siver,” White said.

“Nobody thought he’d beat (Dustin) Poirier. Now, everybody thinks he’ll walk through Siver. I don’t ever count the chickens before they’re hatched, man. Believe me.

“Anything can happen in this sport. We’ll see what happens.”
