Either Sascha Sharma is deaf or he has no confidence in his stand-up.
“Don’t be going to your back like a fucking bitch!” Conor McGregor roared at the German lightweight during the third round of Sharma’s TUF 22 battle with Chris Gruetzemacher.
For two rounds, Sharma had been intent to take the fight to the ground but failed to do enough off his back to warrant a decision.
Sharma had taken the first round by landing more than Gruetzemacher in the clinch but decided to pull guard late on which foreshadowed how the next two rounds would pan out.
The second round went the way of Gruetzemacher after he dominated from top position and, despite the numerous cries from The Notorious for Sharma to keep off the mat, he continued to shoot for takedowns from way too far out and repeatedly flopped to his back to invite the American fighter into his guard.
So incensed was McGregor that he flung his sunglasses at the cage in disgust at the fact that Sharma wasn’t listening to his advice.
The Irishman even made a point to walk to Sharma’s corner, caught his fighter’s eye and clearly warned him “don’t go to your back. You on top!”
But, right away, Sharma started the sudden victory round by throwing himself at a takedown that was never there and trying to pull guard.
That was the cue for McGregor to continue calling Sharma a “pussy” as his fighter failed to threaten off his back and became the second consecutive Team Europe representative to lose.
