‘Hon the Faithful
You know you’re a special talent when you can leap above a multiple major winner in golf’s world rankings and you haven’t touched a blade of grass.
Offaly’s Shane Lowry is now above Tiger ‘toothless’ Woods in the rankings at a career high of 45. Lowry has held onto his position inside the world’s top 50 for another week while Woods has continued his slide to 47th from a position of 43 last week. Lowry’s last payday was when he came home 11th at the Nedbank Challenge at the start of December while Woods’ last appearance was at his own Hero Challenge event the same weekend in the US.
Lowry’s inclusion inside the world’s top 50 to end 2014 meant he received an invite to the Masters as a very nice Christmas present while it should also see a massive boost in his earnings for the coming year if he can maintain his form. His next event is set to be the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego in just under two weeks’ time.
The number one spot is still held by Rory McIlroy with fellow Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell in 19th.
