He has decided to cash in on the club.

INEOS chairman and founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe has taken the surprising choice to put one of his football clubs up for sale, as reported by The Athletic.

Alongside Manchester United, in which Ratcliffe took control of a 27.7% stake in late 2023, the company also control Swiss outfit Lausanne Sport, and are still the majority shareholders of OGC Nice in Ligue 1.

Following so-far unsuccessful attempts to find a new owner for Nice, Ratcliffe's group are now looking for a means to offload Lausanne Sport to a new owner, a move which the Athletic have considered a sign that INEOS plan to downsize their sporting operations.

According to the report: "INEOS, which declined to comment when approached by The Athletic, has given global consultancy firm Alvarez & Marsal the job of selling Lausanne-Sport and it has sent a five-page sales prospectus to potential investors."

As part of the document, which the Athletic claim to have seen, Lausanne Sport are described as: "An established top-flight contender” in a 12-team league with “only two historically dominant clubs”, FC Basel and Young Boys, “both of whom have recently struggled”.

INEOS are aiming to sell Swiss club Lausanne Sport

It now remains to be seen how plans to sell the club progress.

At current, Ratcliffe's plans to sell Lausanne Sport do not appear to have any impact on his commitments to Manchester United.
