The American golfing veteran was livid with this.
Patrick Reed has put a lot of noses out of joint during this Ryder Cup.
‘Captain America’ was a Team USA in the last couple of Ryder Cups but he lost his two matches on Friday and Saturday. Talk on and off the course was that Reed did not want to play with his old partner Jordan Spieth but his wife, Justine, placed the blame for that on Spieth.
Fans did not appreciate, either, his bombastic shushing on Saturday when he dropped his one and only birdie. To our mind, though, Reed was entitled to give some back as he was getting flak all week.
On Sunday, with Europe in the ascendancy, Reed took on English golfer Tyrrell Hatton.
At one stage it looked as if he might have a say in the final destination of the trophy but wins for Ian Poulter, Francesco Molinari, Jon Rahm and Henrik Stenson saw Europe win their 9th Ryder Cup since 1995.
Reed and Hatton played on as celebrations burst out across Le Golf National. He dropped a putt on 16 to win his match and brought out his trademark ‘shush’ before applauding the galleries.
Butch Harmon, on Sky Sports punditry duty, did not appreciate the gesture. He declared:
“And he wins his match, oh…. don’t come with that crap! What are you doing?
“That’s ridiculous. Show some class Patrick!”
Not one bit impressed.
Patrick Reed continuing to ruffle feathers, even with his compatriots.
