The Dublin footballers were sporting the freshest Championship haircuts two weeks early

Freshest of fades and some new gear for the boys

Niall McIntyre

The Dublin footballers coasted to victory over Monaghan at the weekend, and by the looks of things they’re still in relaxed mood.

In fact, Jim Gavin’s men have, bar a scare against Carlow, never really had to get out of second gear in the Championship thus far. The real acid test for them will come in the semi-final on August 27, however, and they’ve known that for quite a while now.

Tyrone coasted to Ulster glory, and put Armagh to the sword in their quarter final with ridiculous ease, so if anyone is to wreck the Dubs three-in-a-row bid, it’s Mickey Harte’s men.

Many think the men of the north are worth a flutter at 5/1 with most bookmakers, it’s certainly worth considering.

We are all well aware of the modern inter-county player’s tendency for a championship haircut, well Dublin mainstays John Small and Ciaran Kilkenny were getting their fix a full two and a half weeks before the big game, surely they’ll get another one in the meantime.

That’s a fresh looking cut in fairness to John.

The footballers weren’t the only ones taking it easy, Dublin hurlers David Treacy and Eamonn Dillon joined up with the lads later on, all donning the fresh fade and some slick gear.

We’re sure they’ll be back training tonight and back in the gym tomorrow.
