Walter Walsh proved just why he got an All-Star last year with an incredible display against Limerick on Saturday.
The bizarre thing about Walsh’s day was that the Sky commentary team had reported that there were subs being readied to replace him before he scored the first of his four fine points.
By God, Brian Cody will be glad he didn’t take him off.
Kilkenny displayed the type of ruthlessness we have come to expect of them, but that they were missing in this year’s Allianz League and their Leinster semi-final loss to Wexford.
Cody’s men showed that they shouldn’t be written off just yet in the race for Liam McCarthy with an outmuscling of  the Treaty.
Padraig Walsh anchored Kilkenny well from a full back position that he is starting to look increasingly at home in, while Paddy Deegan and Michael Fennelly were in energetic form in the middle of the field.
Shane Dowling was at his powerful best for the Treaty, sniping some fine points from open play and from frees, but his best efforts weren’t enough for Limerick.
While the Cats weren’t at their goal-taking best, they never really looked like losing this one despite John Kiely’s side’s gallant effort.
There was only one man on everybody’s lips leaving Nowlan Park, however and that man was Walter Walsh.
The Tullogher Rosbercon club man lead Kilkenny to a business-like triumph over Limerick on Saturday raising four white flags.
One of these points will leave you weak at the knees.

We’re not sure what the best part about that score was. Was it the unfailing balance and presence of mind to flick the ball behind him when under intense pressure from Declan Hannon? Was it the Quade Cooper-like dummy from the big man? Was it the sublimely accurate on-the-run strike?

We’re not so sure, but what we do know is it was one of the best scores we’ve seen in a while.
