Having shot the lights out in the semi-final win over Ballymun, Diarmuid Connolly let others grab the scoring glory against Castleknock.
That is not to say the St Vincent’s captain did not play a central role in the Dublin SFC final victory.
We make no apologies for our admiration of the Dublin phenomenon. We follow pretty much everything he does – from kicking balls into bins, monstering the Gooch, celebrating like Cristiano Ronaldo 0r marvelling at his ability to stick a penalty in the very corner at the sharp end of an All-Ireland final.
But even dedicated students of his talent like ourselves were taken aback by this pass of pure genius in last Saturday’s Parnell Park decider.
With only one point between the sides, being forced towards the sideline and on his right foot (it makes no odds to Connolly, left or right) he plays a curling pass off the outside of his boot, which travels 30 yards into the bread basket of the inside forward.
It’s the trajectory, it’s the curl, it’s the perfect velocity. It’s everything.
