VIDEO: Cushendall supporters’ hair-raising rendition of Green Glens of Antrim at half time of the All-Ireland semi-final

This is what club GAA is all about

Conan Doherty

Club is family.

Club is where your heart is. Club is where you come from.

Anyone who’s ever been lucky enough to catch even the briefest of glimpses at that breathtaking north Antrim coast – along the shore of Glenariff, the Waterfoot and the mighty Cushendall – they’d understand in a heartbeat just why the natives are so proud of the green glens of Antrim.

And they’re proud of their hurling up there too.

You know, it was only four months ago that this resilient Ruairi Óg side had to come from nine points down with half an hour remaining to overcome coastal rivals Ballycastle and conquer the county. That could’ve been their season over there and then.

No success. No 13th county championship. No Ulster title. No Green Glens of Antrim at half time of the All-Ireland semi-final.

Now, the Antrim gaels are on the march to Croke Park and they’re going there in fine voice. They’re going there proud of where they’re coming from.

Cushendall made a mockery of the odds when they humbled Galway’s Sarsfields in Navan and the stirring version of the Green Glens of Antrim that the supporters belted out atop their voices is really what club GAA is all about.

This is what it means to them.

Thanks to Club Aontroma for sending this our way.
