Tony Kelly breaks the internet as Clare claim league title with unbelievable injury time rally

Conan Doherty

Bloody hell. Hurling.

Don’t ask how but Clare are league champions. From nowhere. From absolutely nowhere.

Waterford will be wondering what the hell happened in the Division One replay with the Banner and the only answer they’ll summon is Tony Kelly.

The Deise were cruising to glory and looked in control for most of the encounter on Sunday but an inspired performance from the Clare captain put paid to any of their celebration plans and three points in an incredible 90 seconds in stoppage time saw Davy Fitzgerald’s men steal the crown.

Tony Kelly rattled to goals as Clare were on the march but the attacker then firstly struck from 100 yards to level the game with a dead ball before storming down the right and floating over spectacularly with the last touch of the game.

And, as was fully merited, he almost broke the internet. Some of the words being used to describe him weren’t even doing the great man justice.
