Seven Dubliners and six Mayo men in official 2017 GAA All-Star football team

Some set of bucks

The 2017 All-Star football team has been named.

The first announcement came as somewhat of a surprise, with David Clarke edging out Niall Moran of Tyrone but, more significantly, Dublin captain Stephen Cluxton.

Mayo took two of the three full back slots with their captain Keith Higgins getting his fourth All Star. The westerners were edged 2-to-1 by Dublin in the half backs, with Cian O’Sullivan and Jack McCaffrey keeping Colm Boyle happy.

In midfield, Tyrone’s Colm Cavanagh got his first All Star and was joined by Dublin’s James McCarthy.

Aidan O’Shea was named in the All Star half forward line, with Dean Rock and All-Ireland final goalscorer Con O’Callaghan also getting honoured.

Paul Mannion and Kerry’s Paul Geaney made it 14 from 15 positions filled and the final spot was a case of last but not least – evergreen Mayo forward Andy Moran.
