Rory Gallagher has stepped down from his position as Donegal manager.
The Donegal county committee were set to meet in Ballybofey on Monday night, but Gallagher confirmed his decisions to the players beforehand.
The 38-year-old took over as the county’s manager to replace Jim McGuinness in 2015 and was given a three-year deal with the option of a fourth year available.
The decision comes on the back of a disappointing season for a youthful Donegal side, who were hammered by Tyrone in the Ulster decider, before a crushing and eventually telling loss to Galway in the qualifiers.
The news was confirmed on the county’s official Twitter page this evening, and there is a statement to come.
The Fermanagh man had been tipped to continue with the county, after his deal was extended last autumn with a new four year term but he has called it a day.
