Prominent German soccer figure gets suckered into hurling

Social media strikes again

He’ll be putting on the black and amber jersey for next year’s championship, no doubt.

With the explosion of social media and streaming sites such as GAA Go, the All-Ireland final attracts more and more international fans to our national games every year.

This year, a pretty noteworthy figure in world soccer became a fan of hurling because of this newfangled internet thing.

Euro Sport and Even Management (ESEM) managing director Christian Machowski seemed absolutely fascinated by the clash between Kilkenny and Galway.

Machowski, and a few of his football journalist friends, were particularly amused by Johnny Coen’s high-tackle on Colin Fennelly. They could not get over the fact that the Galwegian only received a yellow card for the foul.

When one of the Sun’s Football correspondents heeded his advice, but was left befuddled by the sport, Machowski swiftly encouraged him to stick with it. He was quick to commend the players for their accuracy, speed and bravery, all of which he picked up on after just being introduced to the sport.

See you at Croker next year, Christian.
