Problems in Mayo GAA worsen after county board and players hold brief meeting

Over before it started

Things appear to have just gotten worse.

Last night the Mayo county board and the players in dispute with senior management met face to face for the first time since the controversy over a no-confidence vote earlier this week.

The county board were hoping to hear from the players representatives, believed to be captain Keith Higgins and Cillian O’Connor, to hear why exactly they have lost confidence in the management of Pat Holmes and Noel Connelly.

However if they were looking for answers and a detailed discussion they didn’t get it, as reports today suggest the meeting broke up within 10 minutes of getting started after 30 players turned up at MacHale Park in Castlebar last night

There was no comment by the players as they left the meeting and it is expected that the Mayo county board will meet again either tonight or over the weekend to discuss the worsening crisis.

The attendance of 30 players is likely to be seen as a sign of strength and unity from within the panel after questions were raised about how many players had voted against the current management.
