Harder than Kilkenny marble
How far would you go to help your side to win an All-Ireland title? If you got injured during the game would you try and run it off? Or would you put your body in the line to stop an almost certain goal chance?
Well St Kieran’s college captain Sean Morrissey has done something even better as he scored two points in Saturday’s All-Ireland schools final against Thurles CBS with a broken hand.
The teenager broke a bone in his left hand near the end of the All-Ireland semi final win over Athenry last month and was pretty much ruled out of playing any part in the match before the weekend. There was huge disappointment that Morrissey wouldn’t be able to line out for his schools side who were looking to secure a record 20th Croke Cup title on Saturday.
However the team captain decided he just had to play in the game and cut the cast off his hand on Friday night-just hours before his side were due to play the Tipperary school. As proof that he would be playing he sent this snapchat to Kilkenny’s All-Ireland hero John Walsh on Friday night to show that he would be there for his team, and his teammates
The gamble worked as the Bennettsbridge teenager put in an inspirational performance on Saturday at wing forward scoring two points in this sides 1-15 to 1-12 win.
Speaking to SportsJOE today Morrissey confirmed that the cast was only cut off for the game on Saturday and his hand is now back in plaster until the bone fully heals over the coming weeks.
They make ’em different down on Noreside for sure.
