Pic: Growth in Berlin shows just how rapidly the European GAA scene is expanding

Das ist gut

We may be seeing a Muller or a Schmidt tearing up the Championship in a few years.

The GAA scene in Germany may not be the biggest, but they are certainly passionate about our national game.

It wasn’t too long ago when the Munich Colmcilles GAA side were racking up the shares in Ireland for their re-work of Fr. Ted Crilly and Fr. Dougal Maguire’s Eurovision flop, “My Lovely Horse”.

Unsurprisingly, the actual sport itself appears to be catching on in some areas of the country, particularly in the nation’s capital.

Berlin GAA posted an image of a training session ahead of the South East European regional finals which they’re hosting this weekend. The image shows just how much the club has grown since the club’s inception in 2014.

The tournament will feature over 200 players representing 10 clubs from across the continent in both ladies’ and men’s matches. Teams from Munich, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Luxembourg, Belgium and more will play at the one-day tournament on June 11.
