“It’s her birthday today, so she’s all excited for six today.”
Galway lost the Division One final to Mayo, but there was a lovely moment caught on TV when Padraig Joyce’s daughter pulls him away from an interview.
The Galway manager was giving his assessment to TG4 on the match when these little hands just appeared on the shoulder of Joyce trying to pull him away.
The camera panned around to show it was his daughter Jodie, who was sporting a big birthday badge and wanted to her dad to finish up so they can finally start celebrating.

“It’s her birthday today, so she’s all excited for six today.”
Completely fair enough if you ask us, things like football can wait when you have a birthday that special to be celebrating.
However, on the less serious business of the game, Joyce did address the fact that although he was pleased with his side’s performance, he isn’t happy that they have lost yet another final.
“Overall I would be very happy with our league, we had a great performance all through the league. If you compare us to Mayo, they were back long before we were training.
“We had a club distraction as well, a lot of our lads play club football, and we had Sigerson involved as well so I told the lads before the game that we’re probably a little bit behind in terms of our fitness because they’re peaking for Sunday while we have three weeks to peak.
“The elephant in the room though is we have lost our third final in Croke Park in a row, so that’s not good for us.”
