Is there anything Niall Morgan can’t do?
Tyrone goalkeeper Niall Morgan has been playing in nets for Dungannon Swifts soccer club in the Northern Ireland Football League, and has been very impressive.
The Edendork clubman has always been a gifted soccer player, but could never commit to the high level of the NIFL, while still playing for Tyrone.
This is where the benefit of the new split season has come into play, because the 2021 All-Ireland winner can now represent the soccer the team in the summer, as the county season is over.
The 32-year-old played last night in a 2-1 defeat to Carrick Rangers, and although his side lost thanks to a late penalty, Morgan had put in a memorable performance.
It’s not often the goalkeeper of a losing team gets a highlights reel made about them, but BBC Sport NI did exactly that, such was the extent of his brilliance during the match.
Another added benefit to playing Gaelic football in Tyrone, is that the club championship is a traditional straight knockout format.
Ladies and gentlemen… Niall Morgan 👏

This means, that because there is no need for group stages, or back door matches, the championship can be played much later than other counties.
If you look at the Wexford hurlers who have their club season done and dusted, and other counties like Derry, Kerry and Mayo several games into their competition, it’s hard to believe that Tyrone’s hasn’t even started yet.
Edendrok will undoubtedly be Morgan’s priority once it does start however, and it should come as no surprise that the versatile athlete plays a completely different role for them.
A goalkeeper for Tyrone and in soccer, the dynamic sportsman plays outfield for his cub, and has been used to fulfil several positions.
In recent years he has been deployed at midfield, but this season under Conleith Gilligan, he lines out in the half forward line, and drops back as a sweeper.
Thankfully for Tyrone, Dungannon Swifts, and Edendork, he is able to excel at all of these roles in all of these codes.
