Reunited.
Mayo will welcome Donegal to Castlebar for an Allianz Division 1 football league game on Sunday with both sides having very different motivations for the game.
Donegal will be hoping to secure a spot in the final on Sunday 9 April, while Mayo will be praying to avoid the drop. Although, the win over Tyrone in the last round increased Mayo’s chances of staying up exponentially.
However, there is still a chance that the Westerners could be relegated. If they come up short in the game and Cavan win theirs, the Breffni county would finish ahead of them by virtue of the head-to-head record.
So, it’s unsurprising that the announcement of Cormac Reilly as referee has gone down so badly. Reilly was the man in the middle 2014’s controversial All-Ireland semi-final replay between Kerry and Mayo. He required a Garda escort from the Gaelic Grounds after the Kingdom secured an extra-time win and received a lot of vitriol over his performance.
Reilly hasn’t taken charge of a Mayo game since that faithful day, so the announcement hasn’t exactly gone down well in Connacht.
Cormac Reilly? Cormac Fucking Reilly? Christ. 😒 Hope he gets a lovely reception. More importantly an emphatic Mayo win👍 #Mayogaa

It's unfair that @officialgaa give permission to incompetent Refs like Cormac Reilly to officiate Div 1 games. #mayogaa #GAA
