Considering all the chat talking down Mayo during the week, from the media and from fans, the Green and Red had more than enough ammo to get them fired up for the All-Ireland final.
But a certain Kerry player gave them even more fuel before kick-off, when he tried to employ a few intimidation tactics.
During the handshakes between the two sides, Graham O'Sullivan intently eye-balled each Mayo player and then skipped his handshake with captain Jack Coyne.
Needless to say, these actions backfired somewhat.
Kerry boss Jack O'Connor spoke after the game, and highlighted what his side struggled with.
He said: "I didn't think we were dealing with the high press very well", he said.
"We just needed to give the lads a bit of an outlet and we weren't doing that. We were letting the fellas hang out to dry a little bit.
"So we spoke about that at half-time. We spoke about staying in the game, getting it down the stretch. And to be fair, we did that.
"Mayo went five up, we dragged it back. David (Clifford) kicked a great two-pointer to get us within a score. But it was just one or two passes then went astray.
"And you know yourself when you're looking at the clock, you're forcing it a little bit. But you can't fault our boys."
