The court case involving a former Mayo Gaelic football player has been adjourned until September.
Davitt Neary, his brother Rhys, and Paul Dowding are charged with causing serious assault to Padraig Weston outside a pub on Tucker Street, Castlebar, on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
The initial charge was assault causing harm, under Section 3, but was upgraded earlier this month to serious assault, under Section 4.
A fourth man, Oran Groarke, was charged with violent disorder, but his was not upgraded.
As per the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997, offences under Section 4 are the most serious charges of non-fatal assault.
According to a report from the Irish Independent, because of the withdrawal of lawyers from criminal cases, the four accused did not have any legal representation at their service of the book of evidence on Wednesday, July 15.
The service of the book of evidence has now been adjourned until September 2, and the men have been remanded on continuing bail.
