Mayo forward leaves county panel

Rocheford will have to plan without him

Ben Kiely

Alan Freemen has left the Mayo senior football squad.

The Aghamore forward had a promising start to the season with the Westerners having starting their National League opener against Monaghan and subsequently being named for a second consecutive start against Kerry.

However, shortly before the Kingdom clash he was replaced by Andy Moran who went on to claim the man of the match accolade.

Mayo manager Stephen Rochford confirmed to Mayo News that Freeman had left the squad. The player informed him of his decision the day after Mayo’s 0-15 to 1-10 victory over Kerry at Austin Stack Park.

“Due to work commitments, Alan can’t commit right now to being part of the Mayo squad,” confirmed the Mayo boss.

“But I’ve always said that the panel remains open-ended and who knows what might happen in the future.”

It is understood that Freeman lives and works in Dublin and his job may require some foreign travel.
