Mayo have been knocked out of the 2025 All-Ireland Championship, following a one-point, 0-19 to 1-15, defeat to Donegal this evening.
It looked as though Mayo had the draw secured, with Cavan going out, when Fergal Boland knocked over a late point, but Ciarán Moore broke their hearts with a classy solo score after the hooter had sounded.
The result means Tyrone top the group, while Donegal and Cavan go into the preliminary quarter-finals.
Mayo have looked impressive at times this year, particularly in their big win against Tyrone, while they showed today that they can keep up with one of the tournament favourites.
However, after the game, interim boss Stephen Rochford made a stark admission in regards to getting what they deserved.
He said: "I think when you play a league format, you get what you deserve.
"We just haven't been over the course of the three games, the league table doesn't doesn't lie.
"We would have been disappointed with the first half, didn't get to the pitch of it in the way we'd probably hoped. Much better in the second half, much crisper, brought the game to Donegal with two good teams going at it.
"It's tight, we feel that we're competitive and we can challenge with the best teams, and Donegal are one of the favourites for the All-Ireland.
"You know, it's mid June and we're out of the championship, it's very, very disappointing."
