It’s all turning a little bit ugly out west.
The clouds began gathering over county Mayo more than a month ago now when 12 of the county’s senior ladies panel walked out the week of their championship clash with Cavan.
A ‘player welfare’ issue had been highlighted as the cause for their parting and a month on, not much else has emerged regarding their decision.
But throughout the whole Mayo conflict, its links with last year’s County, provincial and All-Ireland club champions Carnacon were evident.
Eight of those players who’d walked in the first place were from Carnacon, as well as selector Michael MacHale.
And then on August 23, the Mayo ladies county board decided to expel the club from this year’s county championship as a result of their walk-out from the county team.
Since then, it’s turned into a bit of a back and forth with a “devastated” Carnacon releasing a statement on their expulsion.
Fast forward another few days and they’d announced their decision to appeal the Mayo county board’s decision. They were re-instated last week after bringing their case to the Connacht LGFA, but as of Tuesday morning, Mid West Radio is reporting that the Mayo county board will now appeal that decision.
The whole furore came up for discussion at the Mayo ladies county board Monthly meeting on Monday evening, where an overwhelming 30 of the county board delegates voted towards appealing the Connacht LGFA decision, to three who were content to sit on it.

In the midst of all of this, Stephen Rochford has left the Mayo senior men’s football team and right now everything is up in the air out in Mayo.
