A taxi journey in the capital on a normal Friday morning goes something like this:
– “Do you watch the football?”
– “Aye, I was at the Dublin-Westmeath match on Sunday.”
– “What do you think of that Connolly boy?”
As divisive characters go, Diarmuid Connolly is in a whole other bracket. One that you can divide into more brackets obviously.
Nobody will deny that he’s a damn good footballer but it’s the extent of the praise for the Dublin forward that’s generally up for debate.
Take, for instance, the small fact that, despite making his inter-county debut in 2007, Connolly has one All-Star.
One.

So the topic was put up for heated debate on The GAA Hour, just how good is Diarmuid Connolly.
Colm Parkinson is joined by former Roscommon manager John Evans and Dublin legend Barry Cahill in the studio and the issue of Connolly’s All-Stars – or lack of – is hotly discussed.
Did he not deserve one last year ahead of Mattie Donnelly, Ciaran Kilkenny, and/or Donnchadh Walsh?
Did he not deserve one the rest of the years?
