Laois man Zach Tuohy earns top honour for phenomenal AFL form

Best in his position

Ben Kiely

Zach Tuohy is the lone Irish man in the AFL’s All-Australian team of the season.

The Laois native, who togs out for the Carlton Blues, was named the best player in his position by the AFL Coaches.

Tuohy was a rock in the heart of the Carlton defence this season, playing in all of the Blues’ 22 games. However, his stellar form could not prevent his side from finishing dead last in the AFL.

The 25-year-old, who won a Leinster minor title with Laois in 2007, nullified some of the best forwards in the tournament and can now lay claim to the title of the league’s best small defender.

To say that he was thrilled with the huge honour might be a bit of an understatement.

We think he’s happy.
