Hayes is alleged to have been clocked speeding at 150 km/h in a 100 km/h zone

Limerick hurling star Kyle Hayes will appear before court on a charge of dangerous driving following an incident in Cork last weekend.

Hayes has been accused of driving at 150 km/h in a 100 km/h zone near Mallow in County Cork and is set to appear in court at a later date.

A statement given to the Irish Mirror by An Garda Síochána stated:

“Gardaí in Mallow arrested a man for an alleged road traffic offence on Sunday, 14th July 2024.

“The man (20s) has since been charged in relation to the incident and is due to appear at Mallow District Court at a later date.

“As this matter is now before the courts there is no further information available. Investigations are ongoing.”

Kyle Hayes

Incident occurred after All-Ireland heartbreak

The 26-year-old was arrested a week after he and his Limerick teammates were knocked out by Cork in the All-Ireland semi-finals. The defeat ended their hopes of winning five senior titles in a row.

His charge comes four months after the 26-year-old walked free from court after receiving fully suspended jail sentences for  “dangerous” violent disorder inside and outside a nightclub.

A two-year sentence was handed to Hayes for violent disorder outside the Icon nightclub on the morning of October 28, 2019, and a concurrent 18-month suspended sentence for violent disorder inside the nightclub on the same morning.

Hayes was found not guilty by a jury, following his two-week trial last November, of a charge of assault causing harm to Mr McCarthy, however, Judge Dermot Sheehan said “none of this would have happened if not for Kyle Hayes”.
