Some of the worst weather conditions in recent history have been forecast to hit parts of the country over the next few days.
We were going to say we hadn’t seen anything like it for quite a while, but then we realised this is Ireland and remembered Storm Ophelia was less than a few months ago.
The Beast From The East made itself in across the country on Tuesday afternoon. The adverse weather conditions are set to continue until the weekend, which only means one thing – chaos in the GAA world.
The thing about it is, the GAA world actually can’t afford to lose any fixtures without causing serious upheaval to the calendar and schedule.
If the forecast rings true, the Siberian Front, expected to see temperatures plummet to as low as -9C over the next few days will cause just that.
That’s because there are actually no free weekends between now and the conclusion of the Allianz Leagues, which are set to run into the All-Ireland club finals on St Patrick’s day and then into the club month in April.
“If these games don’t go ahead this weekend, there’s no room for everything, call of the League,” joked Colm Parkinson on The GAA Hour Hurling Show.
The GAA have announced that they will have a fixture plan in place to cater with the adverse weather but it won’t be ideal no matter what way it goes.
Here’s to hoping the weather doesn’t turn as bad as is predicted.
But Storm Emma was already wreaking havoc on games across the country on Tuesday afternoon. The All-Ireland freshers quarter final between DCU Dóchas Éireann and NUIG in Dangan was the victim of some gale force winds and hailstones.
It would take more than that to stop either side, with the Glasnevin College going onto book their place in the last four with a 2-14 to 0-18 victory.
We’d say there were some cold hands out there.

Nor could it stop the under-14 hurlers of Enniscorthy CBS and Terenure College who did battle in the Leinster championship despite the snowfall.

The conitions were nothing on those faced by the hurlers of Burgess and Clonakenny who were unperturbed by a snow-covered pitch in their recent challenge match.
