Dundalk IT’s away jersey is just as good as the home one

A classy nod to GAA jerseys past.

Ever since Dundalk IT released images of their home jersey for the 2018 Sigerson Cup campaign, GAA fans, and even those who have no connection to the GAA have been bowled over by its beauty.

The DkIT home jersey is nostalgia at it’s brilliant best. Old is often gold, and the retro design and material, which was the norm for GAA jerseys 10, 20 or even 30 years ago is an outlier that trumps most modern creations.

That old guaranteed Irish logo is something else. The soft material, the hanging collar, the colours, it really is the whole shebang.

The Trench Cup champions will be competing in the Sigerson Cup under the hands of Oisin McConville and Shane Lennon, and their away kit will make their travelling days that bit easier.

The lads in Dundalk IT have teamed up with O’Neill’s to create a smashing white, royal blue and yellow number.

The collar is again class. The yellow and blue lines down through the jersey are dainty, but effective.

The simplicity is something else.

Speaking about the jersey, DkIT GAA Chairperson and senior goalkeeper Joe O Donoghue said ‘after our return to Sigerson Cup for 2018 we decided to release a retro jersey’. This jersey was based on the DkIT GAA team who reached the Trench Cup final in 1988. The jersey proved to be highly popular with people from all over the country ordering the jersey.

The club then decided to release an away version of the jersey and do a novel photo shoot.  It involved visiting some local landmarks in Dundalk.  Joe said ‘some photos shoots have become a little bit mundane so we thought we would have some fun with ours’.  ‘We had great craic doing the photoshoot but we also wanted to show that DkIT is a big part of the community in Dundalk.’

What a bunch of lads. They even wear Mikasa gloves, the most memorable fad in GAA history.

Tied to their history. In touch with the present. Defining the future.

The jersey launch coincides with the Sigerson Cup draw which pitted DkIT against Trinity College Dublin.

The jersey is available to purchase through the Sports and Societies Office in DkIT for €50 and will be available online via O Neills from next week.
