Dublin’s Super 8s group confirmed

Niall McIntyre

And the Super 8s are only one weekend away now.

The Super 8s were brought in so that the best teams would play each other more often. The Super 8s were brought in so that the best teams would travel the length and breadth of the country for games rather than having them in Croke Park the whole time.

There has been plenty of controversy surrounding Dublin getting two games in Croker but one thing’s for sure about the whole thing and that’s that the Dubs won’t mind the test in travelling away from home.

They’ll be rearing for that challenge, they’ll be gunning to show that they’re the best no matter where the game is played. After Tyrone’s gutting of Cork in Portlaoise on Saturday afternoon, it was confirmed that Dublin’s away trip in the Super 8s will be no lesser than a trip to Healy Park, Omagh.

Famously one of the most hostile grounds in the country, the Dubs couldn’t be posed with much tougher assignments than this Tyrone one.

All looked hopeless in the Red Hand camp after their disappointing loss to Monaghan in Ulster, but Mickey Harte’s men have got back on track gradually in their three qualifier games.

They struggled first time out against Meath before comfortably dispatching of Carlow. Cork were demolished on in O’Moore Park but it’s hard to read too much into that with the Rebel defence looking so toothless and so open.

In fairness to Tyrone, they can only beat what’s in front of them and they’ll have a bit of confidence behind them coming into the Super 8s now.

Completing the Group One is Ulster champions Donegal and Roscommon who edged Armagh in a thriller earlier on Saturday.

  • Dublin
  • Donegal
  • Roscommon
  • Tyrone

Here’s when those matches will be played.
