David Coldrick gets the nod.
Dublin and Kerry will clash for the 13th time in All-Ireland football final on September 20th and the GAA have gone with a very solid choice in the man to referee the occasion.
After a summer of controversy in games and disciplinary issues, the GAA have revealed today that Meath’s David Coldrick will take charge of the game, while David Gough will referee the minor decider between Kerry and Tipperary.
The GAA’s policy of not allowing referees that had taken charge of All-Ireland semi-finals to ref the final meant that Joe McQuillan, Maurice Deegan or Eddie Kinsella could not take ref of the showpiece on Sunday week.
Coldrick will take charge of his third All-Ireland final having officiated the decider between Kerry and Cork in 2007 and the 2010 decider between Cork and Down.
He has also taken charge of games involving both finalists already in this year’s championship as he officiated the Leinster Football Semi Final between Dublin and Kildare, and the All-Ireland quarter-final between Kerry and the Lilywhites.
Somewhat unusually it’s being reported that Coldrick lives in Dublin, so he might find a few flowers or boxes of Milk Tray outside in his door in the comings days from both sets of supporters hoping for some good luck in the final.
David Coldrick appointed All-Ireland football final referee. Now that is interesting. Lives and works in Dublin. #GAA

He also has proven that he is well able to take a hit if things get feisty between the two old rivals.
