He’ll miss some of Kerry’s National League campaign.
David Clifford has been absolutely lording it for East Kerry in the Kingdom’s Senior Football Championship this year. The Fossa club man, alongside his brother Paudie, has been cutting through defences and scoring for fun over the last few months.
Last Sunday in Austin Stack Park, the hottest ticket in Gaelic football right now turned in another masterclass. Despite missing a penalty and struggling early on, he bounced back to score 2-5, including one of his finest points ever as the district side earned a draw with Dingle.
What makes the 20-year-old’s performances recently even more creditable is the revelation that he’s been hampered by a shoulder injury all the way through. Fortunately for East Kerry, he will be available for the rest of their championship run, including that replay this weekend, but once East Kerry’s championship is over, Clifford is set to go under the knife.
Kerry’s Eye had the story on Thursday morning that the golden boy of the Kingdom will have surgery on his shoulder “some time in November.”

The standard recovery time from a shoulder operation is somewhere in the region of 14-16 weeks, so just say Clifford gets surgery at the beginning of November, he’ll be out of action until a date in March at the earliest.
That’ll come as a blow to new Kerry manager Peter Keane as he attempts to get a good thing going for the Kerry seniors in the League.
