And then there were four.
The Kerry senior football championship is one of the most hotly contested club competitions in the country and now it’s down to its last four.
Dr Crokes are still there, as usual, and the kingpins of the Kingdom will be joined by Dingle, Kerins O’Rahilly’s and East Kerry.
The action was thick and it was fast at the weekend and the great men and women of TG4 ensured we never missed a ball kicked down from the south of Munster.
Dr Crokes were again irresistible with that man Tony Brosnan shooting the lights out in their 1-20 to 0-9 victory over Legion. Paul Geaney’s two goals saw Dingle past Austin Stacks and another inside forward was on it for East Kerry.
In the clash of the divisions, David Clifford was the difference as the East defeated the South in the day’s other last eight clash. The Fossa club man, playing alongside his brother Paudie, was a threat all day and he wielded his genius over the contest despite close attention from the South Kerry defenders, and their goalkeeper.
With South Kerry beginning to rally, the hottest young ticket in gaelic football somehow found himself in acres of space inside the South Kerry 21 and when he was picked out by an incisive pass, there was only going to be one answer.
The way he finished it was delightful. With an overstated hop, he had the goalie in a spin, with a lash of that golden gun of a left, he had the green flag flying. The South Kerry number one, frustrated at the concession of a goal, appeared to kick out at the goalscorer after the damage had been done.
Clifford had the last laugh, patting the net-minder on the head before wheeling away in celebration.

That wasn’t the only time the South Kerry lads unsuccessfully tried to get under the skin of the explosive forward. Clifford laughed last, however, and Clifford laughed longest.
In 1st half of East Kerry v South Kerry, Clifford had a wild swing and sent a ball well wide. @SportTG4 mics picked up the verbals between him and his marker. Yeah great kick boy. Fuck off. Clifford has the last laugh with a little wink and a smile with a well taken goal #GAABEO

He and his brother Paudie are now heading to the last four and their expectations are clear for it.

And now they’re dreaming of a Clifford, Brosnan and Geaney full forward line for next year.

Some triple threat that’d be.
