There are no words.
It’s a man against a bunch of boys. It was that way against Derry in Sunday’s All-Ireland final, it has been that way all year.
What can you say about the man? He has ripped up everything before him from Kerry’s first round in the Munster Championship against Clare, all the way to the final.
It wasn’t really a surprise to anyone who knew about him, anybody that has been following his career graph. He scored 2-27 for the Kingdom in last year’s minor campaign, as a 17-year-old out of his age, he bloody well ripped victory from the jaws of defeat for his school St Brendan’s in their hour of need in the Hogan cup.
Kerry manager Peter Keane knew all about the jewel in his possession, so did the people of The Kingdom.
So when Kerry destroyed Cork in the Munster minor semi-final, mainly due to Clifford himself, who had scored more than the whole Cork team with his 2-8, and Keane was asked why he didn’t take him off to give him a rest, his reply told it all.
“If you’ve a merc, do you put it in the garage?”
Not a chance. He loves watching him. Everybody loves watching him. Now, we all have just one wish, that he isn’t swayed by a move to Australia.
Look out for this @Kerry_Official minor on Sunday! Did you know David Clifford has 4-37 in the @ElectricIreland Minor Championship so far? pic.twitter.com/gDybMg8mfg

Clifford’s scoring stats are nothing short of phenomenal. He has played 12 minor Championship games in two years. He has scored 10-68 in those games, 10-50 of which came from play.
Sunday was his fifth man-of-the-match award in two years.
2-27 in 2016. 6-41 in 2017.
David Clifford will get the headlines but Fiachra Clifford (2-0) and Brian Friel (0-4) both excellent today and have been all year.
