Cork senior hurling championship

Despite the absence of Conor Lehane, Midleton proved they are one of the strongest clubs in Cork right now with an impressive quarter-final win over Douglas by 1-17 to 0-11.

The Cork senior star missed out through injury and in his absence Cormac Walsh finished up top scorer with 0-9 to set up a semi-final meeting with Glen Rovers.

The Glen themselves had to battle to a 1-22 to 2-12 win over former All-Ireland club champions Newtownshandrum.

Patrick Horgan underlined his class with 0-13 in the game; all but two of it coming from frees.

In the final quarter-final of the weekend champions Sarsfields had the better of Imokilly by 0-20 to 0-16. Cian McCarthy once again proved crucial to the holders as he scored 0-8 of their total in a game that saws the divisional side trail by just 0-12 to 0-9 at the break.

Erin’s Own are next up for the holders in the last four.

Clare senior hurling championship

2014 Munster finalists Cratloe are out of the race for Croke Park, in a hurling sense at least, as they let slip the Canon Hamilton in a classic encounter with Sixmilebridge on Sunday.

The champions lost out by 1-20 to 1-19, having played almost the entire game with 14 men after Conor McGrath’s early red card.

Niall Gilligan, 18 years after he claimed an All-Ireland with Clare, scored six points to set up a semi final clash with former champions Crusheen.

In the other quarter-final, Clonlara beat Newmarket on Fergus by 0-19 to 0-10 with Colin Ryan scoring all but two points for the Blues.

Elsewhere Crusheen had too much for Clooney Quin with a 1-17 to 1-12 win on Saturday, while Tony Kelly was not enough to prevent Kilmaley getting the better of their neighbours Ballyea by 2-18 to 2-17 after extra time.

Eamon Bracken proved the 2004 champions hero with an injury time goal to set up a semi-final with Clonlara.

Derry senior football championship

The Ulster champions are still standing, but only just after a dramatic night in Owenbeg when Paul Bradley’s last second point salvaged a draw against Magherafelt in a 1-16 to 0-19 draw.

The Derry champions lost their opening game, and looked set for a premature exit when Bradley hit over the equaliser to set up a replay this coming Thursday.

Balinderry beat Glenullin by 3-13 to 1-12 with Paddy Bradley grabbing 1-7 over the hour. Banagher just had too much for Glen to win by the minimum on a final scoreline of 0-11 to 2-4 while Lavey beat Loup by 4-6 to 2-7,.

Kilrea enjoyed a 1-10 to 0-12 win over Dungiven and Swatragh beat Newbridge 2-6 to 1-8.

Longford Senior championship

Emmet Og look unstoppable in their bid to retain the county title after a 2-11 to 0-10 win over Dromard in their semi-final at the weekend.

Clonguish face Abbeylara next week in the other semi-final.

Meath Senior championship

It’s down to the last four in the championship and the holders are still in the competition after a 1-18 to 0-9 win for O’Mahony’s over Summerhill.

Dunshaughlin beat Skyrne 3-14 to 3-12 to set up a quarter-final with Dunboyne, while in the major shock of the weekend Donaghmore/Ashbourne lost to Na Fianna by 1-15 to 0-11.

Gaeil Colmcille are also into the last four after they beat Wolfe Tones by 2-7 to 0-12 win and they will meet the Eamon Barry led Na Fianna in the semi-finals.

Kildare Senior championship

There will be new champions in Kildare this winter after Moorefield slumped to a 0-17 to 0 -9 loss to Sarsfields on a miserable night for the three-in-a-row chasing outfit.

They ended the game with 14 men after Ciaran Kelly was sent off on 20 minutes and trailed at half time by 0-12 to 0-3.

Elsewere Carbury beat Leixlip 1-16 to 2-6.

Offaly senior championship

The last four of the championship will see the county’s key football teams once again involved in the race for October honours as Rhode, Edenderry,Clara and Tullamore all booked their place in the semi finals.

Clara will meet Rhode after they beat Gracefield by 1-8 to 0-10 while the champions had an enjoyable 0-15 to 0-8 win over Ferbane.
