Conor McManus pits his dream Monaghan sevens against his all-out-attack rest of Ireland side

This would make some game

Conan Doherty

We’ll score more than you.

You win games by scoring and Conor McManus obviously gets that.

The Monaghan captain has lit up the championship this year as he led his county to another Ulster title with a string of electrifying performances against some of the tightest defences in the land.

And, if his general play didn’t give it away, his dream team selections make it abundantly clear that he values the art of scoring.

McManus took time out of what has been a stunning team and individual season so far to talk to us but, more importantly, he went through his dream picks and we’d pay good money to watch this seven-a-side game.

Only one retired Farney player makes his Monaghan line-up whilst the Clontibret man went for all golden oldies in his rest of Ireland select. A team that has more scoring power and attacking prowess than you could even dream of.

Darren Hughes has played in goals for his county before and he’s got the perfect running power to play in a sevens team where he could raid forward from the line and exploit the lack of marker keeping an eye on him.

Current half backs, Mone and Corey, hold the line – and they’ll probably drag it forward with them – in an otherwise cut throat side that pairs two county legends of the full forward line together up top.

The rest of Ireland team though? By God, the rest of Ireland team.

We have no idea how this would line up on a sevens pitch and we don’t even care.

We assume McDonald would just sit back and ping passes to some of the finest forwards of all time.

They’ll concede plenty but good luck finding a side that will ever score more.
