Well, “poorest” may not be fair. Perhaps this was a display of defensive football for the ages.
We’re not convinced, however.
But at least those involved are still talking about the Cavan Junior B Championship semi-final between Belturbet and Lavey back in 2012.
Belturbet emerged victorious on a scoreline of 0-6 to 1-1. Holding their rivals to just two scores augered well for the final, however they were on the wrong end of a 1-10 to 0-8 defeat to Kingscourt in the decider.
By then however Belturbet had already left their mark on the history of Gaelic football, as the first half of their semi-final in Crosskeys finished SCORELESS.
That’s right. In half an hour of football neither side could find a way to force the ball over the bar or under it. We wonder was there a kickable free, were the defences imperious, or was it a midfield scrap?
The Belturbet notes match report rather glosses over the details of the first half. If there were any details.
It puts Sunday’s 0-1 to 0-1 half-time score in Derry in the ha’penny place anyway.
