Bernard Brogan pays the perfect tribute to ‘arch nemesis’ Marc Ó Sé

"We've had some great battles over the years. He's won more of them than me..."

Conan Doherty

Bernard Brogan would know.

Four All-Irelands are bested only by someone like Marc Ó Sé. Limitless scores are tightened only by someone like Marc Ó Sé. Where Brogan went, his arch nemesis went.

The Dublin legend has had his fair share of battles down through the years but none of them compare to what he was faced with whenever the capital met the Kingdom.

Brogan knows a good defender whenever he feels one breathing down his neck and he knows none better than an outgoing Kerry legend.

“I would always say Marc Ó Sé is the toughest back I’ve ever faced,” Brogan told SportsJOE. “We’ve had some great battles over the years. He’s probably won more of them than me.

“We’ve had some great days. Dublin and Kerry is always a special thing for me with my mam being from Kerry and the connection of the 70s and all the talk around it. Dublin and Kerry is just a special game.

“I’ve always enjoyed playing against Kerry. Some of it has been tough but, in the last couple of years, we’ve probably come out at the better side of it but myself and Marc have always had some great battles.”

The Ó Sé dynasty is gone. The Bernard-Marc rivalry is finished. Now, it’s just memories. But what memories. What battles.
