Hard to keep these two lads quiet, or the Basquels for that matter.
The Dublin senior football club championship has welcomed back a host of inter-county stars. Bernard Brogan was back in a Plunketts GAA jersey on Friday and both he and his brother, Alan, were in the thick of it.
St. Oliver Plunketts eliminated Ballyboden St. Enda’s at the first round stage of last year’s Dublin SFC so their meeting, this time out, was always going to be hotly contested.
In 2017, Ballyboden started brightly and were looking good for their lead when Bernard Brogan was wrestled to the ground. Plunketts scored from the resulting penalty and never looked back, winning by three points and knocking the southsiders out.

That was going to be a big ask with both Bernard and Alan Brogan on the bench and without the scoring services of Tomás Corrigan. It was another set of brothers – Boden’s Colm and Ryan Basquel – that were making an early impact and contributing with key scores that had their side 0-6 to 0-3 up at the break.
Alan Brogan came on for the second half and, within minutes, kicked a point for his team. That would be the height of it for the three-time All Star.
Before the ball could be kicked out, after that score, Brogan tangled with Ballyboden’s Bob Dwan and both men were sent off.
Plunketts needed a spark and it came via Bernard Brogan, who found the net not long after his introduction, and it was a case of ‘game on’. Ballyboden still held the scoreboard advantage heading into the closing stages until Rory O’Connor’s goal put Plunketts two clear.
It was left to Ryan and Colm Basquel to knock over two late scores to tie up the game at 0-13 to 2-7. Ballyboden march on to the quarter-finals.
