You’d know it was Championship season.
Sure what’s the point in putting in all the hard work, if you’re not going to be able to show off to those that don’t know, and that definitely should know, that you actually are a baller.
You’ve fought through all those hard winter nights in the training field, when you could have been sitting at home on the couch flicking through Facebook.
You missed out on craic with friends so you could squat 70kg in the gym. For God’s sake you sacrificed nights out so that you’re at the peak of your powers come game day.
You do it all for the love of the game, well most of it, because you deserve some attention, too.
You’ve put everything into it, and you’re going to make damn sure that people know about it, before your game and after that game.
It’s always good to let people know you play a little bit of GAA, showing that you’re committed, you’re able to make sacrifices, you’re part of the team.
Here’s some of the best of them.
1. Sleep is key – Your Championship game mightn’t be taking place until tomorrow, but you’re in the zone, and you need to let people know this.
‘Sure if I go to bed at ten past five, I’ll surely, surely never run out of energy in the big game.’
It’s not often you go to bed this early, but when you do, people need to know about the sacrifices you are making.
2 – Nerves on D-day – It’s finally game day. You’ve been carb-loading in the build-up to the game, you may be feeling a little bit nervous as D-day is here. The last thing you need is to be carrying excess weight in the cauldron that is Championship action.
Let it all go.
Sure you might as well send a Snapchat about it, at least people won’t forget about the struggles that you are facing as a top-level player.
3 – The water guzzlers – Hydration is key, isn’t that what they say.
Training on Friday night was one of the handiest sessions you’ve done in a long time. It was all team-talks and tactics, but the only thing that really stood out for you is your manager repeatedly emphasizing the need to ‘get the drinks on board.’
Some lads go over the top and drink about 17 litres of the stuff, but in the words of the ‘Waterboy’ himself, “that’s what I call high quality H2O.”
Fair play boys.
4 – The tactical foam roller snap – You’ve been squatting, you’ve been running, you’ve been doing absolutely everything to ensure your legs won’t betray you on the big day.
Coincidentally , of course, this commitment has made your legs look bigger and more attractive.
‘What would be the best way I could show off these legs without coming across too forthcoming?’
A cheeky foam roller snap is just what you’re looking for.
As well as that, it highlights this crucial committed attitude again, “the struggle is so real.”
5 – The classic motivational snap – This really is where Championships are won.
As the great saying goes, “The most important space on the field is the six inches between your ears.”
It’s absolutely crucial that you have that head-space clear, that you’re tuned in and you win that psychological battle with yourself, more than anybody else.
We’re all well used to the, “Champions are made when nobody’s watching” snaps or the last gym session snaps.
6 – The hard-man snap – This really is where Championships are lost.
We all have a few macho men on our team, who think that they can do what they want, that they can show up on game day and their number 6 jersey will be hanging up for them.
The worst thing is, they’ve no shame in broadcasting the fact, that they don’t actually care.
At least they’re honest with us.
7 – Championship haircut snap – Are you really taking part in a Championship match if you didn’t send a Championship haircut snapchat to your friends? No, no you’re not.

8 – Pre-match feed- The snap that shows everybody you’re an athlete, and you bloody well know it.
You’re not eating chips, you’re not eating sweets, you’re eating brocolli, carbohydrates and protein. Lots and lots of protein.
Gweedore made their way to the semi-final of the Donegal Senior Championship with their victory over St Eunan’s, and you can be guaranteed that some textbook pre-match feed snaps, like this one, were key.
9 – Nerve-settler snap – You’ve done everything you possibly could have done in the build-up to the big game.
You’ve drank enough water to ensure you’re pissing for weeks, you’ve eaten like a Champion, now all you have to do is try to stay relaxed and keep your routine going.
What better way to settle the nerves than a good old cup of tea.
10 – The “I’m ready snap” – The bullshit is over, you’re enroute to the pitch and by God are you getting pumped.
So pumped that you’d nearly feel sorry for the man you’re going to be marking.
To prove this mettle, and strength of character, you send a Snap, to each and every one of your friends.
You don’t even want a reply, to be honest you don’t even care, do you?
11 – The venue snap – You have arrived to the scene that will define you, and future generations of clubmates.
What better way to mark the occasion than let everybody know where you are, and more importantly, what you’re about to do.
There was absolutely no need to send the above snaps, but, hey, if that’s what works for you.
